Top 10 Family-Friendly Activities in Malta That Kids and Adults Will Love

Malta is a family-friendly destination that offers sun, fun, and adventure.

The island is small, safe, and easy to explore. It’s full of beaches, history, and activities for all ages.

We visited with our son, Alex, and had a great time. One day, we swam in the Blue Lagoon, and the next, we watched dolphins jump at a Mediterraneo Marine park. There was something fun to do every day, and nothing was too far away.

If you visit Malta and look for activities that kids and adults will enjoy, we’ve got you covered.

Here are the Top 10 family-friendly activities in Malta that will make your vacation unforgettable.

1. Swim in the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most beautiful places in Malta. The water is clear and bright blue—perfect for swimming.

We took a boat ride from the main island to Comino. Alex loved the ride almost as much as the swimming!

There are shallow areas that are safe for kids. You can also snorkel, float, or just relax on the rocks.

Tip: Go early in the morning to avoid crowds. Bring water shoes, sunscreen, and snacks.

From Comino, we also took a short speedboat ride to the sea caves. It was the cherry on the cake and the highlight of the day. You can enjoy the ride in the video below!

2. Cool Off at Splash & Fun Water Park

If your kids love water slides, this is the place to go. Splash & Fun Water Park has pools, slides, and even a lazy river.

There’s a play area for younger kids, so little ones can splash safely. Alex couldn’t get enough of the slides!

It’s a great way to cool down on a hot day and burn off some energy.

Tip: Bring towels, flip-flops, and a change of clothes. Arrive early to grab a shady spot.

3. Visit the Malta National Aquarium

The Malta National Aquarium is fun, cool, and indoors—perfect for a break from the sun.

You’ll see sharks, rays, jellyfish, and colorful fish. Alex was amazed by the big glass tunnel where fish swim all around you.

There are also small touch tanks and fun facts for kids to learn. It’s not too big, so it’s easy to explore without getting tired.

Tip: There’s a café and a playground outside, so you can relax while the kids play.

4. The Silent City of Mdina

Mdina is a quiet, old city full of history. It looks like a place from a fairy tale—with narrow streets, big stone walls, and no cars.

Kids can run around safely, and there’s lots to explore. For a family friendly experience you can take a horse carriage ride, and feel like a prince or princess!

We enjoyed the view from the city walls and stopped for cake in one of the small cafés. We chosen a cafe next to the wall to have a splendid panoramic view as a cherry on the cake.

Tip: Go in the early morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler and less busy.

5. Visit Popeye Village

Popeye Village is a real movie set that was turned into a fun park. It was built for the Popeye film in the 1980s and now it’s great for families.

There are small houses to explore, shows, games, and even boat rides. Alex loved meeting the actors dressed as Popeye and Olive Oyl!

You can also swim in the bay or relax on the deck chairs. It’s fun and very colorful—perfect for photos.

Tip: Don’t miss an ice-cream at the local bar, the view of the bay is amazing.

We had really low expectations after reading blogs and videos, but in the end Popeye village was one of the most amazing family friendly experience we had in Malta. The village and the bay are absolutely stunning, and the water is perfect for a good swim.

6. See Dolphins at Mediterraneo Marine Park

This park is perfect for animal lovers. You can watch dolphin and sea lion shows, see parrots perform tricks, and learn about reptiles and birds.

Alex couldn’t stop smiling during the dolphin show—they jump, spin, and play with the trainers!

There are also options to get closer to the animals, like feeding sessions or photo ops (for an extra fee).

Tip: Take the VIP tour. It is a bit more expensive than the normal entry, but it’s worth every penny. You get basically a very family friendly oriented private tour that gets you way beyond the normal tour. You are very close to the animals, you learn a lot about them, the conservation efforts of the Park, and you also get professional photos taken.

Malta is a great place to try water sports as a family. You’ll find activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, banana boat rides, jet skis and even pedal boats.

Many beaches have safe, shallow areas where kids can join in. We tried the pedal boats and the mega sofa ride with Alex and absolutely loved it!

Instructors are friendly and used to working with families, so it feels safe and fun.

Tip: Look for beaches like Mellieħa Bay or Golden Bay—they offer lots of water sport options.

8. Take a Day Trip to Gozo

Gozo is Malta’s smaller, quieter sister island. It’s perfect for a family day trip. The ferry ride is short and fun, with great sea views.

On Gozo, you’ll find pretty villages, open countryside, and less crowded beaches. The Citadel in Victoria (Gozo’s main town) is like a real-life castle. It sits on a hill and has amazing views of the island!

It’s a slower pace, perfect for relaxing and exploring at your own speed.

Tip: Bring snacks, sunscreen, and a camera—there are lots of beautiful spots to capture.

9. Ride the Malta Fun Train

The Malta Fun Train is a small tourist train that takes you around towns like Mdina or Valletta. It’s a relaxing and fun way to see the sights without too much walking.

Alex loved sitting in the little train and waving at people as we passed by! The ride comes with audio so you can learn about the places you’re seeing.

It’s a great break for tired feet and perfect for younger kids.

Tip: Bring a hat and water—the train is open-air and can get sunny, Valletta can get very hot in the summer.

10. Relax at a Family-Friendly Beach

Malta has some great beaches that are perfect for families. As we were staying at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands, the Golden Bay became very quickly our second home. With soft golden sand, calm water, and space to play, it is one of the best beaches in Malta. You can take it also the hotel as a recommendation for an amazing family friendly experience.

We built sandcastles, we swam, relaxed and water sport. There are sunbeds, lifeguards, and cafés nearby, so it’s easy to spend a whole day there.

Another good option is Mellieħa Bay, the biggest sandy beach in Malta. The water is shallow for a long way out, which is great for kids.

Tip: Go early to get a good spot and bring beach toys for extra fun.
